What a day!!!!
We have had an exciting day helping Owie learn how to wear his big boy jocks and wee and poo on the potty! He has done an excellent job, only using about 7 pairs of jocks this morning, but still managing to do 6 wees and 2 poos on the potty! He has his very own sticker/star chart measuring his progress, and he has 10 or 11 stickers at the close of day one! I am running out of stickers~ so I might be off to the 2 dollar shop tomorrow. There is a picture of Owie with his sticker chart tonight above (second photo).
Owen is very good at washing his hands and excited by getting to pick his own well done sticker. To make today even more exciting, Lawrence (member of the Pastoral Leadership Team - like elders) bought him a present today: 2 fish of his very own! So now he has some pets and can't wait to feed them tomorrow morning. Lawrence has a dairy farm, but also his own petting zoo of sorts, with a donkey, pet sheep, geese, ducks, deer, doves and an avairy full of other birds, plenty of fish in their ponds etc etc so when he saw Owen with the school cat (loving him and petting him and trying to pull his tail....) at the church picnic on Sunday (yesterday) he just HAD to get Owen a pet, because he has the same spirit as him. Owen couldnt quite spit out Ta or Thanks, but Lawrence said that the smile on Owens face looking at the fish was all the thanks he needed!
We have also done some painting today in the afternoon to pass the time at home (third photo), and Owen didn't wet his jocks all afternoon - what a good boy! Very clever! I think he found it a bit trying all the time on the potty, but by this afternoon he only needed to be on there every 45 minutes and did a wee everytime! Needless to say, Owen got a milky way and ice cream for dessert tonight after eating all his vegies (except the zuchinni -what did Nanna and Granny used to do to it in Australia to make Owen eat it??) and meat.
On the adult front, Lee and I have been busy with church and getting to know people still. Sunday saw 3 services and a church picnic (top photo is Owen at Picnic with Carol, the chairman's wife, his favourite new adopted grandma for babysitting) for us along with the farewell of our Interns who had been doing parish education. I went to playgroup (Little Roo's) for the first time with Owen on Wednesday last week and he had a great time (mostly because they have morning tea - inluding cheese and crackers - and songs with musical instruments!). We'll see if we get to it this week with the toilet training happening. I am settling in well and am not too lonely yet - we are out to tea with some of the younger members this week who have kids so that will be nice and I am starting ot get to know the mums and kids slowly - plus all the oldies love Owen because we have been going to the 9am service which is traditional because it works best with sleep time so he has plenty of doting great grandie types too.
Expecting rain for the rest of the week so Owen can look out the window and be facinated! Bet you'll all be jealous in Oz...
