Imogen loved preschool last year, until she worked out that Mummy went home while she was there for a session. Then, the love ran out...
The holidays happened and so much fun was had with the international guests that preschool hate was forgotten until it was mentioned again that we would be going back: "Oh no, me cry and cry at preschool. Me no want to go to preschool. Me stay home with you Mummy?"... which regardless of his love for the place always starts the sads from Owen "I love it at home with you Mummy. It is so peaceful. Can I just stay home too mummy?" - always followed by my argument that he will be 5 in July and will have to go to school EVERYDAY and needs to get used to going to Preschool at least 4 days a week for a start... "Oh, but Mummy I do not want to go to school!" - Why not you may ask? My favourite reasons listed in no particular order:
- I do not know anyone (yes, he does, 2 of his friends are already at his school)
- I will have no friends
- I can not play sports, only soccer (I'm not even sure he can play soccer, but sure!)
- I will need a new school bag
- I do not want to learn to hold my pencil the right way (Granny tried to encourage him... so have I. He is insistant like his father that he just wants to hold it his way)
- I am too clever. The teachers will not know what to do with me.
Anyway, surprise of the century, after 2 years at Preschool Owen is finally settled in and in a second week win declared: "Mummy, I really did miss preschool" and on his first Friday off for the year asked if he could go to preschool today? He is devistated that it is a long weekend and so he no only missed Friday but will not go on Monday either!
Imogen did indeed cry and cry on her first day (reasons shall remain in the vault, not to be spoken about any longer to keep anger at bay). But in my second second week win, has happily bonded to Miss Lande (one of Owen's favourite teachers too) and cried a little when I left her on Tuesday and no tears at all on Wednesday - this may in part be because Miss Lande just happened to be setting up for a little girl's birthday and Imogen LOVES parties and cakes and candels and things, so was very happy to help Miss Lande when Mummy left. Out the door by 9.30am - with a full day til 3pm to myself and resting.
It was a good day. What's not to love about your kids being loved by Christian staff and learning lots of things through such a broad range of expereinces I could never deliver myself at home!
Siblings getting into the painting on day one (before the disaster)...
And checking out the preschool computer...
Week 2 win: Imogen loves the swings and is VERY happy!
Baking with little miss - Week 2 (Owen at preschool, girls at home together for a quiet morning - Thursday)
Because everyone knows that licking the bowl and the beaters is the best bit of all!
